HAPPY HALF TERM

Wishing you all a wonderful half term with your children!

As we have completed our topics of multiplication and division, now would be a brilliant time to encourage your child to use Times table Rockstars in order to improve their fluency and understanding. Logins and passwords are in the front of their reading records.

A polite reminder that children should be reading five times a week minimum. Short sessions are recommended as it is crucial at this stage for children to be applying their phonic knowledge regularly, building fluency and beginning to answer questions on the text in order to ensure maximum progress.

Finally, PE kits have been sent home to wash along with pumps. Our PE days are now Tuesdays and Fridays. Please could you check that your child's pumps are in a safe condition, that they fasten and that they are the correct size for your child. We ask that these be returned to school on Monday.

YEAR TWO'S MARVELLOUS MEDICINES!

We had a whizz-popping, fizz-banging time this week creating our very own magical medicines as part of our Roald Dahl unit! The children created some very interesting concoctions using the different ingredients and had a wonderful time.

SCIENCE

This half term we are learning all about plants! The class have been very eager and excited to find out about how plants grow and we have set up an observational experiment to test our hypothesis. The children are finding it fascinating to see the changes happening to their seeds. Be sure to ask the children how their plants are coming along!

CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT

The class have been working incredibly hard over the past few weeks to learn our songs and actions for our Christmas carol concert. We look forward to seeing you there to showcase our wonderful singing.

SKIPTON CASTLE

The class had a wonderful visit to Skipton Castle! We learnt lots of fantastic facts about why castles were built and what it was like to live in a castle. The children really enjoyed how our learning was brought to life! We even got to experience what it would have been like to be locked in the dungeons! The class had a brilliant time and were excellent ambassadors for our school.

local wAlk

What a fabulous time we had on our walk this week! The children were able to spot lots of exciting human and physical features in our area and were extremely interested in the dragline excavator on the nature reserve. Why not research what a dragline excavator is at home with your grown ups?

POETRY DAY

Year 2 had a brilliant day discussing the poem 'Magic' by Joshua Seigal. We split into groups to learn stanzas and actions then performed to Reception in the afternoon. Lots of fun was had by all and it was fantastic to see the levels of enthusiasm and confidence shown by our children!

PE

In Year 2, PE lessons are on Thursdays and Fridays. We will send PE kits home at the end of every half term to be washed and ask for them to be returned when the children return to school.

Homework

Spelling homework will be sent home on Mondays to be returned to school the following Monday.

Reading

We ask that you support your child by reading with them for five short sessions a week. Little and often is key! Reading books and reading records should be brought to school every day and are checked on Wednesdays.

Pupils are responsible for changing their reading books when they have completed the book 3 times.

Maths

Mathletics tasks linked to our current maths learning will be set Mondays.
